about

Melbourne darlings Merpire and Feelds present: Wilson’s Prom; a world within a high school dream-state of teenage love and hopeful hopelessness. ‘Love Fool’ is the first piece to the story, which is part of a bigger collection of work, to be released later this year.

‘Love Fool’ is about the freedom of human expression, the spontaneity of it and how it can be contorted and toxified by the algorithms on social media. A platform designed to help people connect, explore, and grow can be a dangerous place for human insecurities. A secure network to keep out bots can be a rule book humans are meant to follow, guiding you down a designed path based on your previous interests and how easily you can be persuaded. A desperate reach for connection can be seen as ‘unusual activity’. Humans are unusual. Data can’t play a part in supporting big emotions, yet we so often think it can.

lyrics

"
Covering my teeth
Peeking through what I knew
Trouble underneath
Take it down, turn around
Circles on TV
Pull the pin, closing in
Rushing over me
Chemicals, get the girls
Get the girls

You can say I love you in a frame
There’s no space for anything to change
Loving isn’t living by a rule
I would rather love you like a fool
Fool

Make another face
Little more underscore
Maybe it’s a fake
Pay the price, sacrifice
In it for the chase
Fill the cup, not enough
It’s a funny place
Where you been next of kin?
Next of kin

You can say I love you in a frame
There’s no space for anything to change
Loving isn’t living by a rule
I would rather love you like a fool
Fool
Fool
Fool
Fool

You can say I love you in a frame
There’s no space for anything to change
Loving isn’t living by a rule
I would rather love you like a fool
Fool
